If "Break A Leg" is theater-speak for "Good Luck", what is "Dislocate A Shoulder"? Such are the questions the cast of Legally Blonde was asking as they waited to start their final dress rehearsal before Friday's opening at Miburn Stone Theater.
The dislocated shoulder befell a volunteer working feverishly to complete the set, but really equated to nothing more than the usual speedbumps that accompany musical theater productions. The interesting part was what the cast did during the wait for their musical director to return. What do truly dedicated theater-folk do with spare time like this? The cast of Legally Blonde sang, and sang and sang even more. The harmonizing of a really good ensemble without musical accompaniment can be a delight.
And when the curtain rose for their final dress rehearsal, the Legally Blonde Ccast was ready to go. Everyone was hitting their cues. Even the canine cast members Diva and Summit were there to move the show along. It isn't clear which one will steal the show yet, but Summit the great dane and Diva the miniature pinscher both have the chops to pull tons of ovations.
For those who aren't familiar with Legally Blonde, it is the 7-time Tony nominated production based on tne hit movie of the same name starring Reese Witherspoon. There is great singing and dancing, but in the end, it is a story about love.
This is a bold show for Milburn Stone as they embark on an ambitious 2012-13 season that includes cutting edge musical theater and a little bit of controvery with shows like Spring Awakening and Avenue Q. First up though, Sam Emerson as Ms. Elle Woods and Diva as Brutus will try to win your hearts over the next two weekends at Milburn Stone.
